Born in Honolulu, Hawaii

1958

Attended Pomona College in Claremont, California and the School of Art and Architecture at Yale University. Received a BFA degree and graduated first in his design class and was the recipient of the RR Donnelly Fellowship.

1959-61

Designer for the Lester Beall Design Group, Brookfield, Connecticut.

1962-65

Designer with IBM in New York City.

1966

Returns to Hawaii and es`tablishes Clarence Lee Design.

1970

Designs interior displays for the Hawaii pavilion at Osaka world's fair.

1985

One of 128 designers in the U.S.A. invited to participate in the Images of Survival Peace Poster project, exhibited in Washington, D.C., Hiroshima, Japan, and Moscow.

1987

Receives the Hawaii Advertising Federation Silver Award for outstanding contributions to the advertising industry.

1988

Designs interior displays for the Hawaii pavilion at Expo 88, in Brisbane, Australia.

1992

U.S. Postal Service asks Lee to design a New Year stamp commemorating the contributions of Chinese-Americans in the U.S.A.

1993-05

USPS asks Lee to design New Year stamps for the next twelve years of the Chinese Lunar calendar.

1998

The Queen Emma Gallery honors Lee with an exhibit of his work: “Clarence Lee: A lifetime in Design.”

Most recently, Lee has been honored as a Living Treasure in Hawaii and received the prestigious Koa Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts.
